National Customer Service Week: Celebrating Our Caring Crew

Holland America Line is known for providing award-winning personalized service thanks to our caring crew. Though we’re grateful every day for our incredible team, we want to take a moment during Customer Service Week – celebrated the first week of October – to thank our people from ship to shore for their time, talent and dedication to creating an unforgettable experience for others.    

We recently caught up with some of our crew to ask what service means to them. Here’s what they had to say:

Claire, Neptune Lounge Concierge

For Claire, being consistent and efficient matters in every interaction, as does going above and beyond what others would expect. 

“What I love most about taking great care of our guests is that we are creating a lasting impressiona once-in-a-lifetime experiencethat they will always look forward to on their next Holland America cruise. I want our guests to feel that they are home away from home, every time they step onto any of our ships.” 

Irwan, Stateroom Steward 

Irwan loves cruising the world and caring for people along the way so much that he’s been doing it for more than 18 years. Going above and beyond consistently to ensure guests feel cared for is particularly important to him. “Exceptional service is about anticipating needs and having the ability to wow guests at every turn.

Joan, Demi Chef De Partie

Joan enjoys personalizing the guest experience by going the extra mile. “I love treating guests as my family – seeing them happy, listening to their stories…I want them to feel like they are not far from their family back home.”

For Joan, what makes the Holland America Line experience a special one is that the crew cares deeply about every aspect of the guest’s journey, and that care comes from a place of love. 

Dwinda, Assistant Waiter

For Dwinda, exceptional personalized service means exceeding guest expectations. Dwinda loves helping guests make unforgettable memories as they sail around the world while working with others who are caring, open-minded and very supportive throughout the journey.

Taneka, Assistant Shore Excursion Manager 

Time, attention and engagement are key for Taneka when it comes to providing outstanding service. Taneka loves sharing firsthand knowledge about the many different shore excursions our guests can enjoy to personalize their cruise.

“I want our guests to feel looked after and to enjoy every moment of their cruise.”

Neil, Future Cruise Consultant

Neil enjoys providing exceptional service by staying informed of every aspect of the cruise experience, connecting with guests in a meaningful way, and ensuring the journey is so unforgettable that people can’t wait to cruise with us again. Neil often remembers guests from previous cruises and loves it when they remember crew members, too.
