Holland America Line Makes Short-Term Changes to Cancellation Policy

In order to give travelers greater peace of mind surrounding their upcoming vacation plans, Holland America Line is announcing new programs to offer greater flexibility and choice during these uncertain times.

For guests currently booked on upcoming cruises, Holland America Line is temporarily changing its cancellation policy and allowing guests to cancel their cruise or Alaska Land+Sea Journey departing through May 31, 2020.

Any cancellation will receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) for the amount of the paid fare which can be used for another cruise in 2020 or 2021. The FCC must be booked by Dec. 31, 2020, and the cancellation must be made with a minimum of 72 hours in advance of departure date but no later than March 31, 2020. However, guests booked between now and March 9, 2020 may also cancel under this new policy despite being within 72 hours.

For those who choose to keep their cruise plans on departures through May 31, 2020, an Onboard Spending Credit of US$200 per stateroom/US$100 per person for voyages longer than 7 days and US$100 per stateroom/US$50 per person for voyages less than 6 days will be automatically applied to their shipboard account as a thank you.

We also know that there are people with specific individual health situations that impact their ability to safely travel during these times. For those guests who are able to provide supporting documents from their health care provider, Holland America Line will issue them a Future Cruise Credit. This “Compassion Policy” offer is available for guests booked on any sailing, regardless of departure date.

(The offers are not applicable to guests booked on a charter sailing.)

New Book with Confidence Program Allows for Cancellation

To help cruisers feel more secure when making a future booking, Holland America Line also is offering a new Book with Confidence program that allows for cruise and Land+Sea Journey cancellation.

Under Book with Confidence, guests who make a new booking by April 30, 2020, for itineraries that depart on or before Oct. 15, 2020, can cancel for any reason and receive a FCC in the amount of any cancellation fees applied. The cancellation must be made up to 30 days before departure.

Cancel Up to Departure with Cancellation Protection Plan
Holland America Line’s Cancellation Protection Plan can also be purchased for new cruise or Alaska Land+Sea Journey bookings or existing bookings as long as it is purchased before the date cancellation fees begin to accrue. The program, offering a Standard or Platinum plan, allows guests to cancel up to 24 hours before cruise departure with Standard and right up to departure under Platinum and receive refunds from 80 to 90% of eligible amounts paid. The cost varies by cruise fare and is nonrefundable.

Book with Confidence and the Cancellation Protection Plan can be combined with all Holland America Line promotions, including Pack These Values that began this week on select 2020 cruises or Alaska Land+Sea Journeys, giving travelers even more reasons to book a Holland America Line vacation.

our 03/14/20 cruise was cancelled and we were offered a full refund, etc. It is now August 19th and no refund. I patiently have waited for a response and finally called on july 6th. The voice mail said I needed to send an e-mail. I sent an email on 07/06/20 and received a “canned response” stating that I should hear in 7-10 business days. Well, it is now 44 days later and I still have received NO response at all! We have cruised on HAL numerous times. What has happened to the customer service/communication.

I notice that Holland American cruise line has cancelled Hawaii cruises for the beginning of 2021, why are they not cancelling the November 3/2020 Hawaii cruise?

I have requested a full refund of my Alaska cruise booking which was cancelled by HAL. For 3 months, I received no replies and then today I received only a partial refund which is about 25% of the total costs of my booking. What happened to the remaining 75% of my hard money money!!!??? Does HAL process full refund in different stages?

We have opted for a refund of our cruise; and completed the online form requesting the option we preferred.
Holland America has stated that we would receive our refund by two months of stating our preference.
Yet we have heard nothing – not even an email of acknowledgement of our preference, or when our refund will be done.
Please can you provide us with the details we require?
    Many thanks.

My wife and I booked and paid in full in November 2019 for a cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage and return. We realize things have been in a turmoil for the past few months but we have heard nothing from Holland America. Very poor customer relations.

Our Amsterdam to Norway cruise for May 3 was cancelled due to the pandemic. I just (in June) received a partial refund on my credit card, and the rest was kept as a “cruise credit.” We are now in the vulnerable health category and may not be able to cruise again in the near future. Can I get a full refund from HAL?

I have been tracking the Oosterdam and it looks like it is going through the Panama Canal as is several other cruise ships. My concern is that we have a 40 day trans Pacific cruise on Oosterdam
starting 9/27. With all the Covid 19 problems why has this cruise not been cancelled. There is no information on what the safety regulations will be or if the ship will reduce the number of Guests and how that will be facilitated. I have called twice to the Seattle office and talked with a supervisor with no answers given. This is very frustrating! So many lines have cancelled cruises to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii. Why not
    Holland America Oosterdam!

Our cruise to Alaska was cancelled months ago. We had paid in full on Feb. 24,2020. I need this refunded back to the two credit cards I used. I am paying interest on these balances which I normally never do. I am going to contact a lawyer to begin work on this refund. I have contacted customer service over and over again. Do they have the money to refund us? The cruise was to begin on May 25th. I would appreciate any correspondence on this. It seems they just have a script to have us be patient but this has gotten rediculous. Holland cancelled this trip and not us. It was for three people and we had insurance just in case. We are very dissappointed in Holland and will not book again. They had been our top cruise line until now.

We booked a cruise that was cancelled due to cornavirus. We paid for four people. We requested a refund on March 10th, and after two months, received a refund for two people only. It has been three months, and we are still waiting for the balance. We have had many conversations with our cruise consultant, and she says that “they are working hard on it”. I would hope that is true, and still would like to have the return that I am due. Can you help?

I canceled an August cruise on March 12, and it’s now May 26. Two and a half months, and still no refund in sight. I get that there’s a pandemic right now, but hotels, airlines, etc. are all dealing with the same thing and they’re not taking two and a half months to process a refund. This is getting ridiculous.

I’m very disappointed that the refund we have been waiting for is so long in coming. I realize that we were told it could take up to 60 days but I certainly question why it should be taking so long. I do realize these are very difficult times for everyone.

Our cruise was cancelled on Marchl 10. I was told that a refund would be issued, however, I have not received it as of today April 7, 2020. This was for tomorrow’s sailing on the Rotterdam Panamra Canal itinerary. The passengers are Leonard, Andrea and Cejuana Johnson. I would appreciate an explanation as to why my refund has not been issued/ received to date. Thanks for your assistance in this matter. Leonard Johnson.

    Dear customer Service,

The Corona situation forced us to cancel the trip and utilized our premium Insurance.
If one had an insurance or did not have an insurance one should be treated the same.
    Insurance fee should be reimbursed.
Furthermore, Holland America canceled the trip so we should be compensated accordingly. All the other customers that did not canceled or did not have insurance were compensated.

    Best Regards,
    Haim P.

How do I go about canceling my cruise on the New Statendam for March 29th? It was canceled because of the conavirus 19. We would like to receive credit to be able to book again in the future. My husband, Robert Porter, also would like to get cruise credit.
