Catch Up With the Crew: Meet Jordyn, Cruise & Travel Director

When you meet Jordyn, you quickly feel like she’s your best friend on board. She’s incredibly warm and energetic, and she has a passion for people and the cruise experience. She’s also an adventurer and entertainer at heart. That combination makes her an amazing cruise and travel director for Holland America Line, and it’s her mission to help guests experience the best when sailing the seas with us.

“I love people. That’s one of the reasons I love this job,” Jordyn said. “I love engaging with people from all over the world, whether it’s guests or team members. That’s part of the beauty of being on a cruise ship. There’s so much we can learn from those we meet and interact with. That’s why I try to be everywhere so I can meet as many people as possible.”

Jordyn starts her day bright and early to greet guests with her morning announcements, sharing the daily itinerary and activities guests can look forward to. In addition to making appearances on stage – whether it’s for her own presentation or to introduce guest speakers – she’s often running around the ship, engaging guests and team members through delightful conversations.

She has always had that spark to entertain and bring joy to others. It began with her passion for dance when she was just four years old, and that led to a college degree in dance and arts management. After graduating, she began traveling as an entertainer in Saipan and Southeast Asia.

“I took the plunge, and I’ve been traveling ever since.”

She couldn’t get enough of the world. An adventurer at heart, she wanted to explore all of it. That’s when she seized the opportunity to work for Holland America Line. So far, she has cruised to Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada, Greenland and Iceland.

Jordyn loves exploring the shore and going on hiking adventures while in port. She captured this photo during a hike around a waterfall in Skagway, Alaska.

“The beauty of cruising is being able to make all these stops along the way. Bora Bora was a dream of mine, and I’ve been able to check that off my list.” Though she has enjoyed exploring the beauty of cooler locations, she doesn’t deny she’s one for the beach. “I love the warmth on my face and the sand between my toes!”

Jordyn also loves a good celebration, including Holland America Line’s Orange Party on board.

“We have to talk about the Orange Party! It’s one of my favorite events. I come fully decked out, even more than necessary. Orange is the Dutch national color, and it stems from the Royal Family. In the Netherlands on the King’s birthday, they have a big celebration where everyone wears orange. Streets are filled and it’s a huge party. Because our company was founded in the Netherlands, we like to partake in that party as well, but we don’t just want to party one time of the year. We want to have a party on every cruise so that everybody can enjoy it with us. It’s fun, upbeat and people are partying, wearing their orange. I love it!”

Another celebration that has meant a lot to Jordyn is Holland America Line’s 150th anniversary. When she learned about the company’s history and impact through “Origin Story” – an onboard presentation that takes place at the beginning of our cruises – she teared up.

“The journey that our company has been on from so long ago to where we are now…it’s an incredible story. The foundation we have as a company, and everyone on board embodying what it means to work for Holland America Line, is what connects us all together. It’s beautiful.”

Jordyn loves spectacular views and incredible artwork. Here she’s jumping with joy next to a whale statue in Juneau, Alaska.

Jordyn encourages everyone to check out “Origin Story” when they sail with us. She’s also a huge advocate for trying something new on vacation, whether it’s participating in game shows; joining arts and crafts classes like origami and watercolor painting; picking up some tips on pickleball; or grooving to the beat during evening entertainment. There’s so much to do and explore on board, and she hopes guests enjoy all of it.

“Go out there and have fun with a game show. Book that shore excursion. Try a new food item from a different country that you haven’t tried before. There is something for everybody, and being able to experience those things and try something new is the beauty of coming here,” she said.

If you love traveling and want to explore careers in the cruise industry, Jordyn offers this advice: “Take the first step and apply. You never know where your journey is going to take you. I think you just have to go with an open heart and an open mind, taking every opportunity as they come because you never know what you might come across or what door might open, taking you somewhere you were always meant to be.”

Now for a Quick Cruise Q&A with Jordyn:

Favorite onboard meal: Anything from Tamarind. I love Tamarind.

Favorite onboard activity: I love good live music, so I’ll just stroll along Deck 2 and take it all in.

Favorite shore activity: Hiking and exploring the local towns. I also love meeting up with friends from our other Holland America Line ships at port.

Favorite animals to see in the wild: Whales.

Thank you for sharing your Holland America Line story with us, Jordyn. We wish you a safe and pleasant journey to your next destination.
Stay tuned for more Catch Up with the Crew stories, featuring incredible team members and their fun cruise jobs.
