Onboard Specialty Dining Offers a Collection of International Flavors

With the addition of Nieuw Statendam to the fleet, Holland America Line’s diverse offering of specialty dining expands to feature new venues, including a sushi bar and an al fresco area at Tamarind. Guests on all ships have a opportunity to choose from an array of options that showcase flavors from around the world.

Fleetwide, the menus in Pinnacle Grill, Tamarind and Canaletto feature new dishes, and guests can now order a lobster platter and the 36-ounce President’s Cut Steak for a nominal charge in the Dining Room every night. When in season, stone crab also will be available in the Dining Room, Rudi’s Sel de Mer and Pinnacle Grill at market price.

Here’s an outline of the dining venues on board so you can plan your cruise and where you want to eat. Be sure to make reservations once your booking is confirmed!

Nami Sushi Features Signature Rolls by Sushi Expert Andy Matsuda

Adjacent to Tamarind on Nieuw Statendam, the new Nami Sushi features seating for 12 guests around a sushi bar where the rolls are made fresh, as well as limited table seating. The menu offers al la carte signature sushi rolls and sashimi developed by Matsuda.

Guests can indulge in Crispy Lobster Tempura, Asparagus and Salmon, Fried Soft Shell Crab, Spicy Scallop, Hamachi Usuzukuri, Grilled Alaskan Crab and Seared Albacore Tuna rolls. Classic rolls and sushi and sashimi also are available. Starters include Spicy Edamame; Tuna Poke; and Hamachi, Scallop and Salmon Ceviche, while the desserts include Yuzu Cheesecake, Mango Posset and Japanese Mochi ice cream. Items from the Tamarind menu can be ordered a la carte at Nami Sushi. Nami Sushi carries a surcharge.

Rudi’s Sel de Mer Re-Creates French Brasserie

Rudi’s Sel de Mer is an intimate French brasserie aboard Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam that serves an a la carte selection of classic seafood dishes with a modern twist. Re-creating a setting reminiscent of the finest casual French restaurants, Rudi’s Sel de Mer is the namesake of Holland America Line’s Master Chef Rudi Sodamin. New menu items include Marinated Lobster, Duck À L’Orange and a Grilled Seafood Platter. The menu also features daily specials and desserts. Rudi’s Sel de Mer carries a surcharge. On other select ships in the fleet, Rudi’s Sel de Mer can be enjoyed as a pop-up in the Pinnacle Grill.

Club Orange Restaurant Serves Breakfast and Dinner to Club Orange Guests

When Holland America Line recently introduced the new Club Orange program for Pinnacle and Neptune Suite guests, as well as for purchase by a limited number of guests, one of the perks included is the use of the exclusive, intimate Club Orange restaurant. On Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam, Club Orange is a stand-alone venue that is open for breakfast and dinner for Club Orange guests, serving the same menu featured in Pinnacle Grill (breakfast) and the Dining Room (dinner). The menu also includes additional daily dishes exclusive to the Club Orange restaurant.

Pinnacle Grill Offers Exclusive Selections by Culinary Council Member David Burke

The award-winning Pinnacle Grill showcases Pacific Northwest cuts of beef and other traditional steakhouse favorites, along with exclusive dishes by Culinary Council Member David Burke. Burke’s appetizers include Pastrami Salmon and Clothesline Candied Bacon; Beef Tenderloin with Lobster Dumplings; Braised Short Ribs with Mushroom Orecchiette; and Broiled Lobster with Corn and Bacon Crepes. Guests with a sweet tooth can indulge in Burke’s Gourmet Cheesecake Lollipops. Culinary Council Member Jacques Torres’ Chocolate Soufflé is featured on the Pinnacle Grill menu as well.

Pinnacle Grill also offers classic favorites and new items on the revamped menu. New options include a 16-ounce Dry Aged Delmonico steak, Corn-Fed Chicken Breast, Baked Alaskan Halibut, Seared Jumbo Scallops and several new appetizers and desserts. The menu offers vegetarian options, as well. Pinnacle Grill is available for a surcharge.

Tamarind Delivers Pan-Asian Delicacies

Praised by Condé Nast Traveler for cuisine “that rivals the top restaurants on land,” Tamarind is the perfect place to explore the culinary traditions of Southeast Asia, China and Japan. The menu, which honors the elements of water, wood, fire and earth, has recently introduced several news dishes, features such exotic fare as wok-seared lobster, caramelized hamachi clay pot, Mongolian barbecue lamb chops, crispy duck with ginger chili glaze and dan dan noodles, accompanied by chilled or heated sake. Tamarind is available on Nieuw Statendam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam, as well as a pop-up in the Pinnacle Grill on Amsterdam and Volendam Asia itineraries.

Family-Style Canaletto Serves Italian Delicacies

Adjacent to the Lido Market dining area, every evening the festive Canaletto features an Italian “sharing” dinner experience that offers a variety of dishes to enjoy with family and friends. The menu was conceived out of a desire to slow down the meal and create a more authentic Italian experience. All pasta served in Canaletto is made fresh on board, and new appetizers include Grilled Calamari with salsa Verde and lemon herb Panagrattato and Melanzane Ripiene. Dining at Canaletto carries a fee.

Lido Market Offers Grab-n-Go and Made-to-Order Fare

Lido Market offers different themed stations with an array of delicious options that guests can grab on the go or have quickly made to order. The range of choices includes specialty stations such as Breadboard, with fresh-baked breads and pastries made on board from scratch; Wild Harvest, offering a bountiful selection of ingredients for made-to-order salads; Homestead, serving up comfort classics; Distant Lands, featuring exotic flavors from around the globe; Market Central, serving continental breakfast or light meals to go; Perk, with freshly brewed coffee, hot and iced tea, and chilled juices; and Sweet Spot, dishing up delightful ice cream creations and desserts.

Main Dining Room is a Traditional Favorite

The Dining Room continues to offer two seatings and menus that highlight the dishes of Holland America Line’s Culinary Council. A full vegetarian and vegan alternative menu is available upon request and features naturally healthy ingredients in vibrant, flavorful culinary selections. The grand wine tower on Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam stretching between the two decks of the restaurant is a stunning focal point.

Grand Dutch Café Pays Homage to the Company’s Heritage

Vibrant shades of blue and white converge with the silhouettes of charming Amsterdam buildings in the whimsical Grand Dutch Café. Located on Deck 3 at the top of the Atrium on Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam, the venue is a nod to Holland America Line’s rich heritage and the ideal place to grab Dutch-themed snacks or beverages, with Heineken beer on tap. Snacks are complimentary for guests ordering a beverage.

Gourmet Burgers and Dogs Featured at Dive-In at the Terrace Grill

For a perfectly grilled burger on a brioche, gourmet hot dog, crispy French fries or a taco bar with all the fixings, there’s no better place than Dive-In at the Terrace Grill, offering al fresco dining by the pool. Look for imaginative toppings and piquant sauces to enliven classic burgers and dogs made to order, along with options such as a grilled chicken breast sandwich or a veggie-friendly portabella mushroom stack.

Authentic Gelato Made Onboard

Gelato is the place to satisfy the craving for a cool and creamy treat on Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam. Holland America Line partnered with the renowned Carpigiani Gelato University to train the ship’s crew in the art of gelato making, so each flavor is expertly crafted onboard and served fresh. Several gelato flavors are featured each day, with a rotation of options depending on the ship’s location. Homemade ice cream, popsicles, waffle cones, sundaes, floats, shakes and malts also are served at the poolside venue. Gelato’s treats are available for a charge.

New York Pizza Serves Made-to-Order Pies and Sandwiches

At New York Pizza, guests can get a specialty sandwich or custom-made thin-crust pie in less than 10 minutes. The complimentary venue features signature 9-inch pizzas or a “build your own” option that are made to order, as well as two signature salads for a perfect starter course. In the evening, the dedicated seating outside is transformed into a pizzeria so guests can choose to eat at the venue or take it to go. New York Pizza is available on Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Veendam. On Nieuw Statendam and Koningsdam the venue is New York Deli & Pizza, also serving made-to-order sandwiches.

    It is both mine and husbands 60th birthday.
    If a friend wants to purchase gift for me eg drinks package , not premier or signature for total cruise, or special dinner at restaurant on board, how can she do it without me paying for it?

My husband is nit much if a red meat eater plus he just had unexpected shoulder surgery so I’m trying to figure out if Gayla night is even feasible for us to attend.

    Hi Cris, we don’t have the menus at the blog, as they do change. However, there is a full menu selection every evening, including Gala, that features not only red meat, but also other dishes including fish, chicken, vegetarian and pasta. You also can request the full vegetarian menu ahead of time and he can select off of that. Bon Appetit!

    The evening attire falls into to categories: Smart Casual and Gala. Most evenings, Smart Casual is appropriate and can be defined as slacks and sports shirts or sweater for men and a skirt or trousers and sweater or blouse for women. For Gala, jacket and tie are appropriate for gentlemen, while ladies wear a cocktail dress or gown.
