Today is #NationalBeachDay, a holiday that honors all of the beautiful beaches around the world. While Holland America Line certainly visits some of the most stunning beaches on the planet, when it comes to quantity of perfect powder, Brazil is at the top. Copacabana
Considered the most popular beach in Rio, Copacabana attracts both locals and tourists. Stretching a glorious 2.5 miles with never-ending action yearround, Copacabana is a must-see. Along the promenade are restaurants, hotels, beach kiosks and plenty of activity, including a bike path, sports on the sand and vendors selling food, clothing, and treats.

Ipanema
Ipanema is iconically known as the “little Paris” of Rio. Around the beach you will find a vibrant social scene, avant-garde galleries, bookstores and movie theaters. The surrounding exclusive residential area adds a feeling of luxury. Beachgoers can admire the view of the twin mountains of Dois Irmaos and stay to watch the magnificent sunsets.

Praia Vermelha
Escape the hustle of city beaches with a trip to Praia Vermelha, otherwise known as Red Beach. One of Rio’s best kept secrets, it is a small, tranquil destination with a stunning mountain backdrop. On one side of the beach is the Military Club with a restaurant, and on the other side you will find a trail that leads to the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain.

Leblon 
Take a trip to the cosmopolitan and upscale neighborhood of Leblon and relax on the sands of Leblon beach. While the area is known for its lively nightlife, the beach also supports a family oriented atmosphere. Venture along the beachfront where there are gourmet restaurants, high-end boutiques and trendy bars perfect for enjoying the view with a drink in hand.

Ferradura
Enjoy a relaxing day sunbathing on the white sand or take advantage of the crystal-clear water and calm waves. Beach activities include paddle boarding, canoeing and an on-site sailing school. With restaurants nearby and beachfront stalls selling food and drinks, Ferradura Beach has everything you need for a fantastic beach day.

Flamengo
Located next to Sugarloaf Mountain, Flamengo is one of the most historical areas of Rio. This local spot is popular among sunbathers and fishermen. Beachgoers love to play sports on the sand, such as soccer, volleyball and tennis, as well as cycling, skating and jogging along the beachfront. To add to the draw, there are also many museums nearby. From sports, recreation, culture, cuisine and entertainment, Flamengo Beach has it all.

Botafogo Beach
If you are an adventurous traveler, then Botafogo Beach is the spot for you. Although it is one of the least explored neighborhoods in Rio, it offers many cultural activities, including museums, bookshops, authentic restaurants, movie theaters and shopping centers. It is the perfect place to experience the beach scene and sea breeze.
