Santiago de los Caballeros, founded in 1495 during the first wave of European colonization of the New World, is the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic. It is also dubbed ‘the heart of the Dominican Republic’ as it sits in the geographical center of the country. Santiago is a very active and productive city with vibrant restaurants, culture, shops and nightlife, and its fertile hinterland is the cradle of Dominican tobacco, coffee, cocoa and sugarcane growing.

Visit the oldest cigar factory in the Dominican Republic -- La Aurora -- to see how skilled craftsmen and women produce high quality cigars.

Stop will be at the Centro León Cultural Center, with valuable exhibitions of anthropological, archaeological, ethnological collections related to the Dominican culture. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.

On the way back to the pier, visit the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration -- dedicated to the heroes of the Dominican Restoration War (1863-1865) between colonist and Spanish forces.

Tour does not operate on Mondays, weekends or holidays. Minimum age is 18 years old. Guests that want to buy cigars at the Aurora Factory need to show an ID (passport or driver license).
