What are Holland America Line’s lugagge policies?
We want your journey with Holland America Line to be smooth from start to finish. Below you'll find helpful information about baggage allowances, luggage tags, and what to do if you experience any issues with your luggage during your travels.
What You Can Bring
Holland America Line accepts baggage that contains personal items intended for your comfort and convenience during your cruise. All luggage should be packed in secure, well-constructed suitcases or trunks that can be locked.
If your itinerary includes a land-based component, please note:
- Each guest may bring two pieces of checked luggage and one overnight or light flight bag.
- Your overnight or flight bag should remain in your possession at all times.
Luggage Issues & Liability*
In the rare event that your luggage is lost, delayed, or damaged while in our care, Holland America Line’s liability is limited to:
- Up to $250 per bag, per guest
- Maximum of two bags per guest for cruises 14 days or less
- Maximum of three bags per guest for cruises 15 days or longer
For full details, please refer to the baggage section of your Cruise Contract. Additional protection is available through our Standard or Platinum Cancellation Protection Plans.
*Baggage liability cover is not available to residents of Australia or New Zealand.
If You Experience Luggage Problems
Depending on when and where the issue occurs, here’s what to do:
If your luggage is lost or damaged by the airline:
- Contact the airline directly to file a claim if:
- You’re scheduled to sail that day and your luggage is missing or damaged at the airport.
- You’ve just disembarked and your luggage is lost or damaged during your flight home.
- You used our Luggage Direct service and your luggage did not arrive as expected.
If your luggage is lost or damaged during transfer to the ship:
- Speak with a Holland America Line shore operations representative at the pier.
If you left something behind onboard or at the pier:
- Visit our Lost and Found services for assistance.
Luggage Tags
For guests using Online Check-In:
- Printable luggage tags are available at the start of the Online Check-In process.
- You may print up to 9 additional tags.
- Tags should clearly display your name, ship name, stateroom number, and sailing date.
- Luggage tags are also available at the airport and pier on the day of sailing.
For guests with paper documents:
- Luggage tags are included in your document wallet and also available at the airport and pier.
If you need help, our representatives at the airport and pier are happy to assist.
