Lima, the fifth largest city in Latin America, is widely considered to be one of its most beautiful. On this easy, half-day evening tour you’ll enjoy the added drama and romance of seeing it all lit up at night! Glimpse the pride and passion of the city’s Spanish colonial heyday at the Plaza Mayor. Located in the heart of Lima’s Historic Center, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its hand-crafted wooden balconies, you’ll be awestruck by the lofty landmarks that make this central square one of Lima’s most popular and enduring tourist attractions. See the towering Cathedral of Lima whose dramatic exterior is dominated by two soaring towers and three massive gateways. Known for its magnificent Churriguerra altars and beautifully carved wooden choir stalls, it is also the final resting place of Francisco Pizarro.
But the highlight of your evening’s itinerary is a candlelight dinner at the elegant Casa Aliaga. Built on land given in 1535 to Jerónimo de Aliaga, a nobleman of Castille and the co-founder of Lima, the home has been in the family for 16 generations. Tonight, the current owners will welcome you as their guests. Set in the dining room, courtyard or main salon, you’ll be part of just a small group of fellow gourmands privileged to celebrate an evening in Lima over a delightful meal. Savor cocktails, hors-d'oeuvres, and three courses with wine, coffee/herbal tea, and cordials.
With the opportunity to spend some time exploring Casa Aliaga’s lovely interiors, your romantic evening is complete. Then top it all off by enjoying, once more, the city lights and the moonlit sea as you make your way back by transportation to your ship at the pier in vibrant Callao.
Notes:
Casa Aliaga is also visited on the Lima Lifestyle Then & Now tour.
