Our Shipboard Team
Staffed 24 hours a day by licensed engineers, the engine department is responsible for the engine room as well as for the technical and interior maintenance of the ship. The team monitors and maintains the vessels state-of-the-art systems – power plant; propulsion; environmental systems; and the heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) system and regular technical maintenance onboard.
The deck department is comprised of the officers and crew whose primary task is the safe navigation of the vessel, its crew and passengers at all times. The deck department is responsible for shipboard security, safety systems maintenance, the lifesaving equipment, emergency response and all safety related training.
Our state-of-the-art medical facilities are staffed with licensed professionals dedicated to your health and well-being. Our doctors are supported by a talented team of registered nurses available each and every day for any sniffles, aches or pains that may come up during your time onboard. Of course we're also prepared with a fully-equipped Intensive Care Unit, including lab and x-ray, to take care of emergencies.
Our hotel department manages the stateroom accommodations, restaurants, and entertainment. From our waiters and bartenders to our chefs and wine experts, our front desk and administration to our officers and housekeeping staff, everyone is dedicated to providing gracious and personalized service. We sail with nearly one crew member for every two guests, providing the intuitive, gracious service that has long defined classic cruising.
Galley/Food Production: The Holland America Line Culinary Council® is an innovative team of top-name chefs from around the world assembled to guide and enhance all aspects of the shipboard culinary experience. The Culinary Council enriches Holland America Line’s culinary initiatives and present signature recipes to be featured in all dining venues on all 15 cruise ships.The Council's expertise and guidance enhance every aspect of the Holland America Line industry-leading shipboard dining experience, from the Lido Restaurant breakfast buffet to the dinner menu of the Pinnacle Grill and everything in between.
Restaurant/Buffet: We invite our guests to dine "As You Wish®". To savor Italian cuisine one night and a perfectly grilled porterhouse steak the next. Our guest may take their places in the Dining Room at a specific seating time or be spontaneous, following their desires. On board, there are restaurants to suit every mood, along with the flexibility to choose the dining style our guests prefer.
Bar: Each of our vessels has numerous beverage outlets onboard and we are always looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable candidates.
Housekeeping: The housekeeping department ensures that all staterooms, passenger areas and crew areas are clean and fresh. The onboard laundry services also fall under this department.
Administration: A wide variety of roles and tasks make up this section; immigration administration, passenger billing, crew travel, financial administration, revenue reporting, crew administration, compliance, crew welfare, learning and development, crew welfare and many more.
Shore Excursions: Holland America Line offers a wide variety of shore excursions in all the ports of call. The Shore Excursions team focusses on sales, logistics and passenger inquiries.
Entertainment: Operating under the cruise director, the entertainment staff manages the onboard music, theater and entertainment. Entertainment positions include Cast, Guest Entertainers, Technicians, Musicians, Clergy, Cruise Director, Youth Staff, Guest Speakers and much more.
