Begin your underground adventure with a 45 minute scenic drive to Modric Cave, located in the vicinity of Paklenica National Park – a pristine and diverse natural landscape brimming with wildlife and lush green vegetation.
The cave was discovered during the 1980’s, but wasn’t opened to the public until 2004. Even today, it is not considered a typical tourist destination, but more of a geological marvel and is frequently visited by speleologists (cave experts) from all over the world.
Today you will have the unique opportunity to explore these caverns yourself. You’ll be provided with overalls and a helmet with headlamp to explore the caves which still do not have dedicated paths or lighting inside. Your guide will lead you through the halls, passages and cracks explaining the fascinating history and geology of the caverns as you go.
Everywhere you look, you’ll see magnificently, colored stalactites and stalagmites. At the end of your exploration with a renewed appreciation for the natural world, return to the ship.
Notes: Participants must negotiate stairs and/or uneven surfaces with 2½ hours of walking and is therefore not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Minimum age is 13 years. Pregnant women are not allowed to participate. Temperature in the cave is approx. 60°f. Dress in layers and wear comfortable walking shoes. Helmets with lamps and jumpsuit will be provided. Restroom facilities are limited.
