Begin your tour with an orientation drive through Timaru.
Stroll through the Botanical Gardens, which may surprise you with their excellent collections as diverse as Australian plants, conifers, and rose specimens. A border containing the native plants of the Canterbury region is of particular note. Endangered plants from around the world are housed in the conservatory complex.
Continue to your next stop -- Geraldine. In the heart of a prosperous farming area, especially renowned for its artists, this town is a haven for retired Kiwis. There are also excellent food outlets. At Barkers Fruit Processors, sample the wonderful fruit juices, jams, condiments, and toppings. Next door is the Talbot Forest Cheese shop, offering samples of fresh local cheeses.
Your last stop will be at Timaru's Caroline Bay -- home to the annual Caroline Bay Summer Carnival, which attracts visitors from all over New Zealand. A timber boardwalk along the beach winds among artificial sand dunes planted with native grasses and a wetlands.
Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so, but must make their own way back to the ship.
