Rustic, tree-covered islands and misty mountain peaks reward your gaze as the ship glides through the Johnstone Strait. This narrow sliver is a haven for marine life as no towns or cities are along its banks. In summer, a large pod of resident orcas come to feed on salmon. This wild waterway also attracts humpbacks, minke whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins and Dall’s porpoises. George Vancouver named the Johnstone Strait after James Johnstone, a sailing master who charted the channel during their Pacific Northwest expedition. Though the channel was charted back in the 1700s, its beauty remains untouched.
