Bella Bella (Waglisla) is a Heiltsuk First Nation community on Campbell Island in British Columbia, surrounded by the Great Bear Rainforest — a staggering 15.8-million-acre temperate rainforest along the province’s misty coastline. Rich in biodiversity, the area is home to whales, otters, eagles, and rare animals like the spirit bear, a black bear subspecies with a cream-colored coat, and sea wolves, coastal gray wolves who feed on salmon. The Heiltsuk have a long cultural history and connection with the environment.
