Fish for wild salmon without getting on a boat. From the shoreline, you'll learn to use a rod and reel to cast. Suitable for children eight and up, this is a great introduction to salmon fishing.
Transfer from the pier to the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery, where you'll tour the facility. Watch the salmon swim upstream via a fish ladder provided by people, and learn more about the lifecycle of salmon and the role this fish plays in Alaska's history and cuisine.
Experience the thrill of catching salmon from the shore, fishing from a picturesque spot with dock and shoreline access and the help of knowledgeable guides.
Salmon are abundant in these waters, but varieties are seasonal. King salmon are available in May and June, keta (chum) salmon in June and July, and pink and silver salmon from August through September.
Arrangements can be made to ensure that your catch is shipped home, or you can release it back into the wild. The salmon are plentiful -- keep your net and camera ready.
Notes:
Minimum age is 8 years. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. A catch is likely but is not guaranteed. Raingear, boots, nets, poles and lures are supplied. Some early morning or early evening departures may not visit the interior of the hatchery; you will still see the fish ladder and learn about the hatchery operations. Guests choosing to have their fish processed and sent home (to the US only) will need to bring their credit card to pay for processing. The Alaska Department of Fish & Game implements conservation measures to protect king salmon; restrictions on keeping your catch may apply. Please check directly with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game for restrictions specific to your tour date. Only fish species that do not have restrictions in place can be shipped home or delivered to the ship for Savor My Catch. A fishing license is required by the State of Alaska and should be purchased in advance of your tour. Children aged 15 years and younger are not required to purchase a license. All participants aged 16 and older must purchase a fishing license in advance by following these steps:
> Visit https://store.adfg.alaska.gov/
> Choose "Shop as a Guest" and enter the required information
> Choose "Fishing, Hunting, Trapping Licenses & Stamps"
> Under Short-Term Products, use the drop-down menu to select the Sport Fishing License for the correct term (if you will fish on multiple days, purchase a term that will cover all applicable dates)
> Add a king salmon stamp
> Enter the date and time you will start fishing
> Add to your cart and check out
> Bring the email containing your license and a screenshot as a backup
