Step into Alaska's Wildest Kitchen for a fun, hands-on culinary adventure that celebrates the flavors and traditions of Native Americans and Alaska residents. Discover the authentic Alaskan ways of handling fish, from catching to filleting and grilling.
Sit down to enjoy a tasting menu featuring fresh or, seasonally, canned salmon, perfectly grilled fish, and seasonal herbs. Your chef will guide you step by step through the preparation, offering insight into local ingredients and the importance of sustainable harvesting. Pair your tasting with your choice of wine or beer as you savor the moment.
Next, watch as your chef expertly fillets the day's fresh catch, sharing insider tips and stories along the way. Then, roll up your sleeves and grill a sample of the catch of the day to perfection over a custom-made alderwood fire — a method that infuses each bite with the signature smoky flavor of Alaska.
Notes:
Minimum age is 8 years. This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair (the tour operator suggests bringing a companion to assist if needed, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs). Only non-ambulatory guests using a wheelchair that requires specific accommodations, such as a lift/ramp and wheelchair anchor on the transportation, can book this tour, as it ensures accessible transportation; guests using a collapsible wheelchair and able to board the coach via the steps must book Cooking in Alaska's Wildest Kitchen. Companions can book the same tour under the title Cooking in Alaska's Wildest Kitchen. The tour route avoids stairs; however, the nature of access may differ from the standards you are familiar with at home. Accessible bathrooms with wide doors are available along the tour route. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp is used for transportation. The number of accessible vehicles available is extremely limited; make your accessible shore excursion reservations as far in advance as possible. Guests requiring accessible transportation, please complete the Special Services form at https://book.hollandamerica.com/specialServices/login.action; this will ensure that suitable transportation is in place for your tour.
