Top 5 Reasons to Visit the Yukon

If both land and sea are calling your name, but you’re not sure where to travel, we’ve got you covered. From breathtaking views to wildlife experiences, an Alaska cruise and Yukon adventure should definitely be on your bucket list. Here are the top five reasons to visit Yukon Territory.

Land & Sea Adventures

Though Holland America Line is well-recognized for exceptional service and amazing Alaska cruises, we’re also the only cruise line to offer its own cruisetours to the Yukon.

Picture this: You’re on an award-winning cruise through Alaska’s Inside Passage. You’re taking in the views of Glacier Bay along the way. You board a scenic train ride with our tour director, who will guide you for the duration of your trip through Denali National Park to Yukon Territory in Canada.

While many adventurers have explored Alaska, far fewer have made their way to the Yukon, covered by luscious forests, home to thousands of beautiful creatures and nostalgic for its place in gold-rush history. If you’re passionate about breathtaking landscapes, mountain air or just getting away from the everyday, a cruisetour to the Yukon may be perfect for you.

Majestic Views

Whether you love taking scenic photos or just taking in the view, this is an adventure of a lifetime. Where glaciers loom over the sea like towers of blue ice and green forests drape over the land from mountain peaks to coastlines, you’ll want to soak up the endless beauty of Alaska and the Yukon on a cruisetour adventure. Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, you may be surprised by the incredible Northern Lights.

Though never guaranteed, it’s always a delight when the Northern Lights make an appearance. An Alaska cruise in early April or late September will increase your chances of experiencing this magnificent sight.

Wildlife Experiences
Moose, wolves and bears, oh my! Witness a world of wildlife throughout your great Alaska and Yukon adventure. Whether you’re spotting whales from the open decks of our ships, or enjoying sights of the “Big 5” (moose, bears, Dall sheep, caribou and wolves) from our luxury glass-domed McKinley Explorer,® this could be an incredible experience for animal lovers. Gold Rush Nostalgia

Yukon Territory isn’t just known for its incredible beauty and wildlife. It’s also rich with history from the Klondike Gold Rush. Dawson City, home to 1,500 residents today, used to be the destination for Gold Rush prospectors in search of fast fortunes. Here you’ll find guides in costume sharing the history of the town through site tours. While you’re there, consider stopping by Diamond Tooth Gerties, Canada’s oldest gambling hall, where you can try your luck at various games of chance and take in a can-can show, led by Diamond Tooth Gertie herself. And if you want to pan for gold, you can do that too. In fact, gold is still one of the top industries here.

White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad

Dependent on your itinerary, you may find yourself aboard the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. Enjoy a magical scenic railway with views unlike any other destination. Recognized as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark – an honor it shares with modern marvels like the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty – the railway weaves its way through steep ravines and cliff-hanging turns.
