Holland America Line Launches Navigator Mobile Phone App Across Entire Fleet

Leveraging technology to further personalize the cruise experience, Holland America Line is expanding the functionality of its popular browser-based Navigator tool into a user-friendly, free app for mobile phones and tablets that can be used on board. iPhone and Android users can download the Navigator app from the iTunes App and Google Play stores, respectively.

Using Navigator, guests can plan daily activities, explore and book shore excursions, view restaurant menus and make dining reservations, view spa treatments, check their account statement and more. Expected to be the most popular feature is the chat function that enables guests to communicate with each other for free while on board.

With Navigator, guests also are able to select and save activities to personalize their daily schedule. Those activities appear alongside booked dining reservations and shore excursions, keeping everything easily accessible in one place. Notifications can be set up to send reminders and alerts for reservations, messages and more.

Guests who forget to download the Navigator app prior to embarking can download it once on board free of charge without using internet minutes.

In the coming months, Holland America Line will extend the app offerings for both mobile phones and tablets — currently only available to use during a guest’s cruise — to offer pre-voyage access so guests can review available services and check out the interactive fleet map at any time before boarding the ship.

I have downloded your application to my mobile phone and create an accound with pin code. It says data is incorrect. Is it because only can be used when boarding and not before? After some trials it says that it is locked.
How can we unlock it and login the application?

Will HAL be adding a “group” function to its app so that you can send a message to more than one person at a time?

    Thanks.

Isn’t this particular blog supposed to be for the Navigator app questions/comments?

My question is regarding the Navigator app. HAL indicates that it is a free onboard app, but don’t you need to connect through your mobile data? If so, wouldn’t you be subject to fees depending on the type of cellular plan you have? I’ve been told that you don’t want to use your mobile phone while on ship as it can be quite costly and that you should wait until you’re off and away from the ship before making calls. Wouldn’t the Navigator app fall under those same conditions?

On a cruise that started in Barcelona, it was only necessary to get a Schengen visa for Spain. Other ports visited did not need a visa since we were visiting as passengers

For a cruise that starts in Hong Kong, visits China and ends in Japan, what visas apart from Japan are required?

The booking agent handling this cruise has no idea at all and referred me to a visa company who are also unaware of the requirements when visiting a port as a cruise ship passenger

I want to be able to Chat/communicate with my wife on our next cruise with Navigator. How do I set up her Navigator account so we can chat onboard when separated?
Everything on our next cruise is booked in my name, password and Mariner number. Although she has her own Mariner number, she doesn’t have a separate HA account with password. Logically, the solution would be for her to register her own HA account under her name with with her own password. I am concerned that if I do that it may screw up our reservation. Any suggestions?

The Navigator app ROCKS! Thanks so much for this terrific enhancement to our cruise experience! I did not discover the chat feature until our last night, but it is brilliant. Game changer! I just shared this blog post with my favorite travel Facebook group.

Julie… I have the app… I used it last January on our Antarctica cruise. It’s terrific. Wife’s cell was old and not compatible at that time, so used the app only with friends on board. She has since updated her phone and would have liked to have set this up in advance. I knew I could stand in line at a help desk once on board… but was hoping to avoid that. Would think that the setup is not rocket science and would be fairly simple.

Holland America – May 2-9, 2020 to Alaska…on Koningsdam…are there any special theme nights, dress up/costume/special color nights we should know about so we can plan/pack accordingly? I am not asking about formal/gala n ights…but say “Pink Shirt Day”,…or ‘hat’ day….or ‘dress like twins’ day…

Hi Julie, We are traveling to Vancouver from Great Britain for the Alaska Cruise on board the Maasdam in May. We will continue to travel in the US after the cruise and usually bring a large cooler bag to use when traveling. Are we able to take this on board or will there be somewhere that we can store it until after our cruise please?

I like the app it functions well and ‘navigating’ through it went pretty well.

One thing that, at least on the Neuwamsterdam needs to be added to the bios of the senior management is a bio for the chief engineer.

    I have a Samsung J3 phone. (I realize it’s terribly old.)
Will I be able to text or call my sister who is cruising with me?
We tried downloading the Navigator but couldn’t.

You will be able to use WhatsApp if you have an internet plan and can connect to WiFi. Ashore you will be able to text and WhatsApp. You will not be able to call on baord, as it is very expensive and goes to satellite.

What settings need to be turned on or off to utilize NAVIGATOR so as not to incur roaming charges?

Navigator is a great resource and tool. What would be extremely helpful is if the app kept a record of all announcements that are made during the cruise. Often, you cannot hear the message over the PA system while in your room, so much of the message may be missed by guests who are inside their staterooms. Otherwise, messaging systems on tv and the app can keep a copy of general messages.

Hi Finlay, that is a great idea, thank you! We will pass it along to our team. Also, fun tip, if your TV is on the channel with the Bridge Cam, you will be able to hear the announcements in your stateroom.
