A Suite Perk: The Neptune Lounge on Holland America Line

Whether you’re opting for a romantic cruise in the Caribbean, a long-awaited Grand Voyage or a multigenerational family reunion, suite accommodations offer the highest level of comfort and relaxation.

What you may not know is that some suites include exclusive access to Holland America Line’s industry-leading retreat, the Neptune Lounge. The Neptune Lounge is found on all 15 ships in the fleet and is an exclusive and private place to relax, socialize and enjoy the personalized service of a concierge who can make shipboard reservations and provide guidance about Holland America Line experiences.

Suite guests can relax and refresh in the Neptune Lounge.

Suite guests can relax and refresh in the Neptune Lounge.

Think of the Neptune Lounge as a living room and an oasis of relaxation. A large-screen television, library, sofas and chairs, complimentary refreshments throughout the day and Wi-Fi for a small charge are all available for your comfort and enjoyment. Continental breakfast and morning coffee or tea are served daily until 11 a.m., and cookies, sandwiches and pastries are served from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sink into a chair and enjoy a book and a cappuccino in the relative quiet of the lounge during the day. Or take a seat at one of the worktables to catch up on the news or research your next destination right here on the Holland America Blog.

Access to the Neptune Lounge also provides access to the first-class concierges who redefine customer service. Don’t worry about waiting in line at the shore excursion desk — the concierges are at your disposal to make tour arrangements or reserve car rentals and local restaurants in port. They can also get you a coveted seat at the Pinnacle Grill, HAL’s sophisticated, intimate restaurant, or make an appointment at the Greenhouse Spa and Salon. The lounge is open from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. on sea days and from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on port days. One-Touch 24-hour concierge service even is available when the Neptune Lounge is closed.

Another appeal of the Neptune Lounge is the sense of community it creates during your cruise. You can take some time to get to know your cruise companions, enjoy a champagne sail away and have some social time before dinner. Neptune Lounge guests even receive corsages and boutonnieres on formal nights!

Guest Sophia Burns enjoyed the Neptune lounge during her Alaska cruise on ms Zaandam and mentioned the hospitality of Vanessa, “the sweet butterfly that keeps the lounge running smoothly” and the social functions scheduled throughout her cruise.

“At noon we were invited for a private cocktail party with young and handsome Captain Wouter van Hoogdalem and some of the crew in the exclusive Neptune Lounge…The Neptune Lounge is a special private lounge for suite guests, and like the rest of the ship, it just oozes luxury.” — Sophia Burns

Many guests have come to find out that the Neptune Lounge can be a valuable addition to their cruise — elevating an experience from pleasant to outstanding. Have you enjoyed the Neptune Lounge as a suite guest? Let us know about your experience in the comments below.

Our suite was directly across the hall from the Neptune Lounge. My wife is disabled, so the convenience was truly appreciated. The staff were nothing short of wonderful, amazing, kind, intuitive (fill in more superlatives). For being in a company of strangers, it certainly felt a lot like home. Our concierge arranged dinners and shore excursions, always mindful of our limitations and the kinds of assistance we might need.
Was the extra cost of the suite worth it? Yes – very much worth it.

Finished a cruise in a Neptune Suite. Take a good look at the above photos of the past Neptune Lounge food offerings. That was how THEY USED TO BE. Not anymore. Back then, they were great!!! No doubt. You could eat all day there with constantly changing foods of great variety. NOW all that is GONE. That is NOT what you get anymore. The new Neptune Lounge has little to nothing to offer you to live the promised “Suite Life”. All that wonderful food in the pictures is replaced with meager snacks like being on the cheapest plane or a motel lobby. HAL has killed the wonderful lounge values. The lounge is like a ghost town now. Pretty much nobody hangs out there now. Nothing to do but get a drink and complain to the concierge who shares in your disappointment but is helpless to do anything about it. HAL, if you block my post because you know it’s the truth, at least please return the lounges to what they were. The smart cruisers are going to discover this like I did after they cruise with these new lounges. I know they will be disappointed and not like them at all. Thank you

Just sailed on the Eurodam to Alaskda (9-3-22) and first time Neptune Suite passengers. Room was awesome with plenty of room for the two of us. The Neptune Lounge staff, Siri and her staff were there for us each and everytime to answer all our questions. We are booked on the Zaandam for 14 day trip through the Panama Canal in a Neptune Suite. Can’t wait. The only down side to our trip was HAL is still trying to spin up from covid and some of the perks of suite life did not take place. Hoping all is back to normal especially the entertainment come Febuary so we can enjoy the trip of a life time.

I would LOVE to stay in the Neptune suite and enjoy the perks with Holland America! Any chance you would like to lift my spirits and send me on an Alaska cruise? I have skipped vacations to cover veterinary expenses for rescued animals for a few years. I figured it was not a big deal since Covid has been causing havoc. I spent my vacation funds on three surgeries for three rescued cats. Over $5,000 in December 2021 and January of this year. The cost of their care is high. I do not have any outside funding as I do this privately. These animals would have been euthanized without me. I rarely ask for anything and I do not actually expect to receive a free cruise, but it never hurts to ask. Thank you for the amazing memories! Dreaming of cruising to Alaska and visiting my relatives. Wishing you a fabulous day and infinite health!

I know that these outlets are available.
But how many and where? Particularly in the Zuiderdam Neptune suites. And how about USB outlets, which most cruise ships nowadays have?
That’s the information I am after, not just a generic statement…

  16. Harald January 24, 2022 at 1:50 pm - Reply

Nowadays, with all the electronic stuff like laptops, phones, watches, cameras(batteries), etc. it is important to know what outlets are available. And it seems to be different for each ship depending on the year built and/or refurbished.
We will be on the 35-day Zuiderdam cruise in Feb/March/Apr 2022 and would like to get that information ahead of time to take the necessary gadgets with us.
Unfortunately, none of the pictures or videos available on the internet show clear enough images to determine what’s available.
Hopefully you can provide that info.

We would like to use our onboard credit for dinners. My concern is if I try to book it in advance I would have to prepay with credit card and not use our OBC.

I envy John who is taking his first cruise to Alaska on the Eurodam, and he is booked into a Neptune Suite. This July my husband and I will be on the Eurodam for the third time on that itinerary (also in a Neptune Suite ) In response to open seating vs choosing the early or late seatings I would suggest not taking open seating. There is always a line. We found it so much more inviting to go to the same table each night, with out any wait. It was also pleasant to get to know our servers, and diners at surrounding tables. If you schedule yourself for an early or late seating and you don’t want it one night, you can always switch to open seating that day. You just enter the dining room on a different level.

My travel agent has kindly booked me in a Neptune Suite on the Eurodam sailing on June 13, 2020. I’m already thinking about the wonderful food options on this Saturday to Saturday cruise. In thinking about specialty dinning and other option, could you please tell me which nights are the Gala nights?

    Day 2 is at sea
    Day 3 is cruising
    Day 4 is Glacier Bay
Day 6 has us boarding the ship after Ketchikan at 1 in the afternoon

Are any of these nights Gala nights? Are Gala nights best spent in the main dining room? Or do the specialty restaurant also do something special for Gala nights also?

One last question(s): I think our travel agent has signed us up for open seating. Is this the obvious choice for folks staying in the Neptune suites? Or do some opt for a different dining schedule choice?

    Thanks for your assistance, John

When we booked our Neptune Suite and an inside room across the hall for our grandchildren, our agent said that each room had to have an adult registered to it. So our suite has me and my granddaughter (age 14) registered and the inside room has my husband and grandson (age 12). How is that going to work with all the percs that come with the suite? i.e. priority disembark, embark, neptune lounge access, etc. Does this mean my husband does not get to benefit from the percs? And/or will the grandkids not be able to priority embark with us?

We have sailed in Signature Suites & Neptune Suites on different ships, all older. The Neptune Suite experience far outweighs
any other rooms in our opinion. We spend a lot of time on the balcony reading and relaxing, enjoying the view and these are by far the best balcony! The size of the room is just enough extra space to not be bumping in to each other. While the Signature Suites are also great nothing beats the convieance and personal service of the Neptune Lounge and Staff. Leaving today on our 3rd Alaska cruise on HAL in a Neptune Suite and looking forward to it tremendously!

“…The bathroom comes with a dual-sink vanity, full-size whirlpool bath and shower, plus additional shower stall …”

And how about the TV on the Amsterdam after the dry dock. Is that still the old small TV or a new large TV on the wall.
There seem to be huge differences of the Neptune suites between the ships even after the recent dry docks.

Julie, can you give us an estimate about when you will post this comprehensive blog?

We are scheduled for our very long cruise at the end of the month and it would definitely help to know what is included and what not, and what was done to/in the Neptune suites at the last dry-dock so we can prepare accordingly. Unfortunately, advice given on the phone is not always correct as it differs depending on the HAL person talked with, or postings elsewhere.

I am a 3-star Mariner and have just booked my 2nd cruise for this year on the Eurodam. Once I booked my 2nd cruise, your website shows both bookings with a drop-down menu but when I attempt to access the individual booking by using the “Find Booking” button nothing happens. My Personal Cruise Consultant suggested that I wait for 24 hours for the website to refresh and change my password, which I did, but I still have the inability to access my individual bookings to make changes to my reservations.

Your former website listed very specific suite perks, like free laundry and dry cleaning, corsages, etc. The new “suite perks” statement simply lists things that are (basically) available to any ship guest (e.g., free room service). Unless Holland is planning to discontinue those perks, it would be helpful if those services could be listed once again. I have trouble remembering and hate to keep calling my Holland agent to ask her.

We are planning to book a 7 night cruise in a Neptune Suite for my husband, me and our youngest child and an interior room across the hall for our 2 older kids. Because they are under 21, one of our names has to be on the interior room. How do we get access for my husband and I to the lounge? We will be paying for 2 adult rates/1 child in the Suite and 2 adult rates in the interior room. I don’t need for any of my kids to have acess, but I would like my husband and I to both enjoy the lounge together as “our time” away from the kids and with other passengers (some of the point of booking the suite!). How does that work? Just trade cards with one of the kids or can we get access for 2 of our 5 passenger party?? Please help – thank you!

We have the 8/5/17 Alaska cruise out of Seattle and have a Neptune Suite. Is it realistic to think the Concierge in the Lounge will be able to make same day restaurant reservations at Pinnacle Grill or Rudi’s Sel de Mer? It would be very helpful if we were able to review the week’s menu for the main dining room in advance.

Can you have guests in the Neptune Lounge who are not in a suite that would entitle them access on their own?

Are Neptune Lounge Wi Fi rates the same as other areas of the ship or does the NL offer discounted rates? If so, please advise what the rates are?

    Thanks

On our cruise on the Zuiderdam from Fort Lauderdale to the Panama Canal, my wife Lynn and I enjoyed the many luxuries offered at the Neptune Lounge. Everything was first-class and very personalized. The staff was attentive and knew us by name. We will make it a point to enjoy the Neptune Lounge on all future cruises.

We enjoyed an Alaskan cruise just a couple weeks ago and spent a great deal of time in the Neptune Lounge. The staff epitomizes hospitality in everything they do and say. So happy to have had the experience. Kudos to HAL and extra to our staff on Zaandam for making a spectacular week!

Having access to the Neptune Lounge is the way to go! We have enjoyed it on three cruises on three different ships. The concierges were all so friendly, helpful, and hospitable. The Lounge is so inviting and enjoyable. It helped to make our cruises even more enjoyable.
