Some of Skjolden's most beloved residents are, in fact, llamas. They're excited to meet you, so don't stand them up.
Walk with your guide across the old footbridge over the Fortun River and make your way into the beautiful Mørkid Valley.
Your destination is the Llama Farm, where you'll meet some lovable llamas and learn about life on the farm. The owner also grows raspberries in season and has a flock of sheep -- an old Norse breed.
With the assistance of some volunteers from your group, the llamas are gathered in a small area of the field and haltered. Listen to some handling instructions; then, team up with a little llama friend and walk at a leisurely pace along the riverbank.
Simon Page, the owner of the farm, is originally from England. He has been farming in Skjolden since 2002 and will accompany you on your walk.
Back at the farm, return your llama to his/her field and take some time to relax with a hot or cold beverage and cookies.
En route back to Skjolden, take in the scenery from a viewpoint overlooking the valley. Guests who wish to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
Notes:
There are 16 llamas used on the walk; maximum group size is 30 people. You may or may not share a llama with another traveler, depending on group size on the day. Tour involves approximately 2½ hours of walking. The walk with the llamas is approximately 1¼ hours. Terrain includes paved sidewalks and unpaved, flat track, trails and roads. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer.
