Adapted to respond to the eco movement, the Isola Solaretto (Island Solar Water Bus) harnesses solar power for a slow and gentle cruise on sheltered Charlottetown Harbour. Large open windows by every seat and roof hatches let the sunlight in as you relax on this Canadian Heritage vessel -- the last boat from the famous 1967 Montreal Expo (World's Fair) -- which has undergone an eight-year, $1.3M renovation to become North America's first all solar-powered boat.
Just steps away from your cruise ship, hop aboard the boat equipped with wifi, a spacious restroom, and comfortable table/booth seating. Four TV screens and a sound system present live audio and visual commentary to complement the sightseeing journey along the shoreline of beautiful Charlottetown. Watch for Maritime Folklore, Charlottetown's marinas, St Dunstan's Basilica, the Irish Settlers monument, Government House (the birthplace of Canada), the armories and cannons of Victoria Park, Fort La Joie/Fort Amherst, and the Confederation Bridge. Watch a fun time-lapse video of the boat being restored and repowered, with its fascinating 55-year history coming to life. Enjoy some maritime storytelling and a trivia quiz with prizes.
