In the late afternoon, enjoy a panoramic drive along the waterfront offers a glimpse of the open-air food market at Forodhani Gardens. Board a wooden dhow (boat) for a cruise along the Stone Town waterfront. As you skim across the tropical turquoise waters, Zanzibari musicians play taarab and the crew serve canapés, soft drinks and beer.
Enjoy the breeze as the dhow sails along the coast, with the colors of the sky darkening as the sun sets on the horizon. Your guide will point out some of the monuments of Stone Town and will recount some of the historic events that have shaped this archipelago.
Sail back towards the glimmering lights of Stone Town and transfer back to the pier.
Notes:
Participants must walk across a small sandy beach to access the dhow boat. Boarding the dhow is by climbing a small rung ladder over the side of the dhow and may require wading into the water (knee-deep) depending on the tide. Wear shoes or sandals that you don't mind getting wet. Participants must negotiate stairs and/or uneven surfaces and is therefore not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Wear light, layered cotton clothing; bring a sunhat and sunglasses. As darkness falls, the temperature drops, and the wind tends to rise; bring a warm cover-up. Zanzibar is a very special place and keeping it so means that change will happen only at the pace that suits the people that live here. You can show your respect for local custom by dressing conservatively. The local people are very appreciative when visitors are respectful of this dress code: bare shoulders, midriffs and thighs are not acceptable; wearing long sleeves and minimum of capri-length pants or skirts is optimal. The order of sights visited may vary. Photography of police officers or persons in uniform is not allowed. Please obtain permission before taking photographs of the local people. Your guide will assist you with this.
