Lima is one of the world's great food capitals. More than 40,000 restaurants across the country reflect the diversity of a nation that mixes native culinary traditions with the cuisines of Europe, Arabia, China, Africa and Japan. The result is a collection of unique flavors that help define modern Peruvian cooking. On this tour, you'll get an up-close look at the cuisines of this special destination and learn some techniques that will transform your cooking back home.
Your first stop is at Lima's legendary Minka Market. Here, you'll visit the fish section early in the morning to see octopus, shrimp and other creatures pulled fresh from the briny sea. You'll have a look at some of the native fruits and vegetables of Peru, too: mini-avocados (with no pits), lucuma (a native superfruit), cherimoya (an ancient fruit beloved by the Incas) and a variety of potatoes.
Next, you'll drive to Miraflores -- a sophisticated neighborhood in Lima -- to enjoy a cooking demonstration and lunch at Señorio de Sulco. This elegant restaurant is located at the northern extreme of the Miraflores district and takes a thoughtful approach to traditional Peruvian cooking. The restaurant features several dining rooms, including a piano bar and an enclosed terrace overlooking the coast. Don't miss the spectacular views.
Your last stop is at El Bolivariano located in Pueblo Libre district. Here, you'll snack on a Peruvian-style ham sandwich and enjoy a taste of pisco -- the national beverage of Peru -- before heading back to Callao and the ship. It's a culinary experience to remember.
