You’ll start with a guided walk through the world’s first trellised coffee farm, where you’ll learn how Kona coffee is grown and cultivated using an innovative method inspired by vineyard trellising. A short video presentation and a 30-minute conversation with an agronomic engineer will offer insights into Kona Joe’s unique fusion of traditional techniques and modern technology.
Next comes the tasting experience. You’ll enjoy a freshly brewed cup of Kona Joe coffee and sample several of their signature chocolate creations, crafted right on the farm.
Now the fun really begins. With your guide’s expert instruction, you'll step up to a mini-Italian-style drum roaster and roast 10 ounces of Kona coffee beans to your personal taste. Whether you prefer a light, aromatic roast or a rich, dark boldness, you’ll control the entire process—adjusting time, temperature, airflow, and drum speed to create your perfect cup. Once roasted, you’ll package your custom blend to take home or share as a thoughtful gift.
Afterward, relax on the open-air lanai and soak in the tropical breeze and breathtaking panoramic views while sipping your handcrafted coffee. Before heading back, you’ll have time to explore the gift shop, where you’ll find an array of Kona Joe products including premium coffees, locally made chocolates, mugs, clothing, artwork, and unique jewelry.
Notes:
Be prepared for some light physical activity during your visit. The experience includes climbing at least 10 stairs between the Guest Center and the Roasting Experience Venue. Some areas of the farm have gentle inclines, and you’ll be walking over approximately 200 feet of both paved and unpaved surfaces, with a total walking distance of around 1,000 feet. For your comfort and safety, we recommend wearing closed-toe walking shoes, along with a hat and sunglasses to help you enjoy the sunny Hawaiian weather.
