Depart the pier for the scenic panoramic drive to Latte Stone Park, where you will see some fascinating latte stone pillars. Constructed by the Chamorro people around the 2nd century AD, these pillars are thought to have been elevated house foundations. Continue to Plaza de España, one of Guam's most important historical sites and once the seat of government for the Spanish, American and Japanese administrations.
Next, you'll proceed to the beautiful Two Lovers Point -- Guam's most famous visitor attraction -- at the northern end of Tumon Bay. Its profile rises 368 feet from the reef below, offering views of the island's eastern and western sides. From here, you'll grasp the island's topography, from the mountainous volcanic geography of the south to the level limestone plateau of northern Guam.
From Asan Bay Overlook, the view has changed little since World War II. Entrenched Japanese soldiers looked out over waves of American troops storming the beach to reclaim the island. The stone walls here are lined with bronze sculptures depicting the events in Guam during the Japanese World War II occupation.
Notes: Terrain includes steps, slopes and about 20 stairs at Two Lovers Point. Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Bring a hat; wear sunscreen.
