A panoramic drive through San Marcos Village leads past pretty countryside and up Isabel de Torres Mountain. On the way to the summit, admire the beautiful forest that carpets the landscape below. In fact, this vegetation is known as the Botanical Sanctuary.
The mountain is crowned with a Statue of Christ and is the perfect place to take in a sweeping vista of the whole town. Inhale the fresh, natural air and enjoy the change of temperature -- it's noticeably cooler at the top. Commune with nature on a stroll through the Botanic Gardens to admire diverse flowers and plants from the tropics.
An interesting sightseeing tour takes you into the historical city center. Watch for the Plaza Independencia, San Felipe Cathedral and the colorful Victorian houses around the square.
On the way back to the pier, admire the San Felipe Fortress, built in 1564 to protect Puerto Plata from pirates and corsairs.
