Experience a day on the iconic R. Tucker Thompson — a traditional gaff-rigged schooner with a compelling history. This working tall ship sails in one of the most spectacular parts of New Zealand, the beautiful Bay of Islands.
Help the crew with the sailing, take the helm, climb the rigging, or just relax with a cold drink. Your day includes an island visit where you can walk and explore, swim, and jump off the ship into the crystal-clear waters, or do nothing at all. Listen to special stories of local history or the conservation projects in the area.
The ship operates as a not-for-profit Trust, relying on revenue generated from summer commercial sailing to support a meaningful youth development program. Do good and have fun at the same time, knowing your day out will support this worthy cause.
Notes:
There are 8 large but steep steps guests must traverse to use the bathroom onboard. Bring a jacket; it is cooler on the water. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk.
