Day 1 (L/D) Phu My - Ho Chi Minh City - Siem Reap
Travel by road from Phu My to Ho Chi Minh City and Tan Son Nat Airport for a flight to Siem Reap in Cambodia.
After a late lunch at a hotel in Siem Reap, head out to the ancient walled city of Angkor Thom. Built in the 12th century by Jayavarman VII, Angkor Thom contains the famous Bayon Temple with its enormous, mysterious faces and the Elephant and Leper King Terraces.
Return to the hotel for dinner.
Hotel: Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra (or similar)
Day 2 (B/L/D) Siem Reap
After breakfast at your hotel, continue your exploration of the Angkor temples at Ta Prohm. Ta Prohm has been left largely in its natural state since its ‘rediscovery’ by French explorers. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of massive banyan trees that envelop it like tentacles. Entering the courtyards is like stepping into a new kind of vegetable world -- not of branches and leaves, but of roots.
Continue to Angkor Wat -- the largest temple in the world. It is unlike all other Khmer temples in that it faces west and is inspired by 12th-century Hinduism. Intricate bas-reliefs tell a story. The most celebrated of these is the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, which is located on the east wing.
Return to your hotel for lunch; then, this afternoon, you will visit Preah Khan (the Sacred Sword) -- an extensive monastic complex covering 138 acres, built by the Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a monastery and teaching complex.
Return to the hotel in Siem Reap for dinner.
Hotel: Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra (or similar)
Day 3 (B) Siem Reap - Laem Chabang
If time permits, this morning, you will drive to a development project teaching young adults stone carving, wood carving, and lacquer application. The Satcha Handicraft Center is a heartwarming reminder that progress in Cambodia can go hand-in-hand with traditional crafts.
Transfer to the airport for a flight to Laem Chabang.
