Sangumburi Crater, a 40-minute drive from Jeju City, is one of the three major craters on the volcanic island of Jeju. It is home to more than 400 different subtropical, temperate and some alpine flowering plant species. Walk along the paved path leading to a small pavilion and several scenic viewpoints, and stroll around part of the crater rim with your guide.
Seongup Folk Village is part of the Jeju Folklore Preservation Zone. Here, you can meet the people who still live behind stone courtyard walls in thatched-roof, lava-wall homes. The village features a Confucian temple, a school, one of the “stone grandfathers,” a mill, and a fortress site. Observe the lifestyle of the people through their dialect, art, and traditions.
Enjoy a Korean bibimbap (mixed rice with vegetables) lunch at a local restaurant.
Walk down to down to Seojicoji. In contrast to other coastal areas in Jeju, this hill was formed by red volcanic ash scoria, which lends a unique harmony to the landscape.
Finally, visit Dongmun Traditional Market, one of Jeju’s most historic markets. Established shortly after Korea’s liberation in 1945 and rebuilt at its current location following a fire in 1954, it has long been a center of local commerce. Together with the adjacent fish market, it offers a wide range of goods including fresh seafood, produce, grains, herbs, and clothing. Famous for its fresh catch, it is especially popular for reasonably priced sliced raw cutlassfish.
