Day 1 (L/D) Laem Chabang – Sriracha - Bangkok
Leave the ship in Laem Chabang and set out to the nearby city of Sriracha for a buffet lunch.
From a riverside pier in Bangkok, board a chartered motor launch and head into Bangkok's canals. See houses built on stilts and pass the Royal Barge dockyard.
Stop at the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), whose 260-foot spire silhouette is often recognized as the symbol of Thailand. Built in the 18th century, the temple is dedicated to Aruna, the Indian god of dawn.
Continue by motor launch for a short visit to the Royal Barges — fabulously ornamented boats used during Thai festivals and processions on the river. Take note of the King's barge, which is more than 160 feet long and requires a crew of 50 oarsmen.
Get off at a local pier and, time permitting, enjoy some shopping.
Check in at the hotel for an overnight stay in Bangkok. This evening introduces you to mystical dances, a Thai dinner, and a charming ambience at the hotel's Salathip Restaurant. Focus on the elegance and beauty of the dancers as they perform stories from classical Thai literature and folktales. The traditional, colorful costumes bedecked with jewels are quite dazzling.
Hotel: Shangri-La hotel (or similar)
Day 2 (B/L) Bangkok - Laem Chabang
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and board the motorcoach. You'll pass through Chinatown and see its beautiful flower market filled with roses, orchids and other colorful blooms.
Visit Wat Po — a temple renowned for its golden reclining Buddha statue and the Chedis of the Kings — a spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bangkok's Grand Palace captures the grandeur of Thai architecture. Constructed some 220 years ago, it was the residence of the Royal Family before Chitralada Summer Palace became their permanent home. Exploring the Grand Palace grounds, you will marvel at the extensive murals, gilded spires and amazing architectural design.
The image of the Buddha sits high atop a golden throne in Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). Carved in the 15th century from a single piece of jade, the Buddha guards the sovereignty of the Kingdom and the religious beliefs of the people.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and shop for some wonderful Thai products. Leave Bangkok in the mid-afternoon to return to the ship at Laem Chabang.
