Depart from the quayside and proceed across the Swartkops River, turning inland to the flat valley of the Sundays River. It is a 35-mile drive to the Addo Elephant Park.
The park covers 51,000 hectares of bush country, and is home to approximately 200 elephants which have bred from the few that remained in the area after the herd was almost wiped out in the 1920s. Although it belongs to the same species as the African elephant, the reddish Addo elephant is smaller with more rounded ears, and the females generally have no tusks.
On a two-hour game drive you will hopefully encounter this endemic animal, as well as various species of antelope. Also noteworthy is the flightless dung-beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo.
Head back to Port Elizabeth where the tour ends at the ship.
Notes:

Participants are not permitted to use cellular phones during the game drives or to speak loudly or stand up on the game drive vehicles, as this will disturb the animals. Smoking is not permitted.
