Your tour will take you from Bodrum to the ancient city of Iassos. Due to its privileged location, its stunning marble and its abundant fishing, Iassos had been inhabited since the earliest days of history. The city was founded by the Greek colonists coming from Argos in the 9th BC, and later inhabited by immigrants from Miletus. However, Italian archaeologists under the direction of Doro Levi have found Minoan houses and Mycenaean pottery which indicates that the site was inhabited well before the arrival of Greeks. The city is mainly situated on a rocky island, with the exception of city walls and necropolis. One of the very impressive monuments of Iassos is a monumental mausoleum—a temple tomb in Syrian style. The burial chamber was surmounted by small Corinthian temple which rested on ten stepped crepidoma. It is dated to the Roman Period and many skeletons were discovered in the tomb. At the end of your guided tour, you will return to Bodrum port.
