Documents and essentials
Pack your travel documents, essentials like medication, and valuables into your carry-on, not into bags you’re going to check. Have all required I.D.s, including passports and visas on-hand.
Medications
Before your cruise, fill prescriptions and bring more than enough medication. If you have motion sensitivity, consider nausea-relief medicine.
Clothing for all occasions
In general, pack swimwear for the pool and hot tubs, workout wear for our onboard Fitness Center, cocktail wear for Dressy Nights, an orange outfit or fun accessories for the Orange Party.
Shirts/cover-ups and footwear are always required indoors. Smart casual attire is appropriate—shorts, beachwear, tank tops and distressed jeans are not permitted in table service restaurants.
One pair of comfortable, close-toed walking shoes is a must.
Laundry service is available.
Toiletries
You’ll find Elemis shampoo, conditioner, and soap in your stateroom, but bring your own if you’d like. Don’t forget the sunscreen, moisturizer, bug spray and toothpaste — you may find some of these items in The Shops onboard.
Technology
Pack the technology you’ll use onboard. Mobile phones and devices, along with associated chargers and adapters.
All Holland America ships, except Volendam and Zaandam, have bed-side USB outlets for charging mobile devices. We hope to add this feature to our R Class ships in the future.
Extras
Binoculars, a reusable water bottle, a spare pair of eyeglasses, a good book, a camera.
What not to pack on a cruise
View the full list of prohibited items. Save space in your suitcase—there are hairdryers and make-up mirrors in staterooms, board games and puzzles in the Crow’s Nest, a Library on board and in-room entertainment. Shore excursions usually provide the gear you’ll need.
