Introducing Eland the Moose

Holland America Line is proud to introduce its newest furry friend, Eland the Moose! This little plaid-clad companion was named after the Dutch word for moose and is best friends with Holland America’s mascot, Lewie the Lion.

Orphaned as a calf, Eland was rescued and raised by the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC). Now, he enjoys educating visitors about the importance of protecting natural habitats as an ambassador for wildlife conservation.

You can find Eland in gift shops at the Holland America Denali Lodge as well as on board all Alaska sailings starting in spring 2025. Eland helps support orphaned and injured moose in Alaska with $2 from each sale going to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

As the #1 cruise line for Alaska Wildlife & Wilderness Tours, Holland America offers 175+ animal sanctuary and sightseeing opportunities including visits to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Located in beautiful Portage Valley, AWCC helps preserve Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, and research. This 200-acre sanctuary cares for injured and orphaned animals and gives them a permanent home if they cannot be released into the wild.

Visit Eland’s friends including wood bison, caribou, wolves, muskox, foxes, and the brown bear, Hugo, when you book a shore excursion with a stop at AWCC. You can even handfeed the friendly resident moose, Pip and Jo, during a moose encounter!

Journey to AWCC on these Alaska shore excursions:

Join Eland on an epic cruise or cruisetour to Alaska with Holland America and marvel at ice-blue glaciers from the deck, look for whales breaching chilly waters, and immerse yourself in panoramic natural wonders in Denali National Park & Preserve.
