Celebrating National Moose Day With Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center

Holland America is proud to partner with the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) as part of our long-standing commitment to celebrate wildlife and wilderness. To help commemorate National Moose Day on January 25, we have exciting updates coming this year to celebrate our work and partnership with AWCC.

AWCC is a non-profit sanctuary dedicated to preserving Alaska’s wildlife through conservation, education, research, and quality animal care. AWCC takes in orphaned, injured, and displaced animals year-round to provide them with a natural home in over 200 acres of spacious habitats. You can visit this sanctuary on all Ultimate Alaska & Denali cruisetour itineraries and select shore excursions for cruise itineraries (more information on these below).

In celebration of National Moose Day on January 25, we are delighted to invite guests to stop by the moose habitat at AWCC, home to Eland the bull moose, who is sponsored by Holland America. In this new, one-of-a-kind Alaska shore excursion, Exclusive Eland & Friends Moose Discovery, guests can get even closer to the wildlife that defines the Great Land.

During the guided experience, guests will learn how the AWCC team supports moose health and well-being through specialized daily care. From enrichment activities and diet preparation to behavior observation and station training, guests get a special glimpse of how thoughtful care supports long-term health and quality of life. Led by an AWCC Naturalist, this experience blends education, animal care, and awe-inspiring moments for visitors of all ages.

Holland America is proud to contribute $150,000 to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to construct the Holland America Moose Promenade. Designed alongside the AWCC team, this boardwalk provides a viewing location that is safe, comfortable, and accessible for moose and guests alike.

What makes this boardwalk extra special is the subtle ties directly to Holland America ships. The promenade will incorporate mooring lines reclaimed from the Westerdam, along with cruise ship inspired aesthetic from the Noordam.

Construction will start later this year!
