Pride & Prejudice Themed Cocktail

As one of Holland America’s Mixologist Partners, David Wondrich helped create this delicious cocktail after serving as a guest speaker at the Jane Austin Society of America and giving a seminar on the punch that’s referenced in “Pride and Prejudice.”
In 1813, “Pride and Prejudice” was published at the very peak of the great age of British punch-making. The “flowing bowl” fueled Britain’s high society gatherings with a simple mix of spirits, citrus, sugar, and water that had evolved into something rich, subtle, and heady.
At a great house such as the Darcys’ Pemberley, the punch served would have been something very much like Pemberly Punch. It’s based on the one famously favored at the time by the Prince Regent, with French cognac, rum from the British West Indies, and port wine, brightened with lemon juice, sweetened with Italian maraschino liqueur, and finished with iced sparkling wine.
