Discover Hilo: Waves & Waterfalls
Discover Hilo combines Hilo’s highlights with a visit to the wonderfully unique Pacific Tsunami Museum in downtown Hilo. But first, breathtaking views await you at Rainbow Falls--a beautiful waterfall on the Wailuku River. The falls get their name from the colorful rainbows that can often be seen in the mist that rises from the circular collecting pool 80 feet below. Great tsunami waves have always been a downside of life in Hilo—today, you’ll hear of their capacity for devastation from a docent at the Pacific Tsunami Museum. Watch real footage of the 1946 tsunami; then, you’ll visit the beautiful Shinmachi Memorial, erected in honor of the many residents of Hilo who lost their lives. Your excursion continues to the historic King Kamehameha statue where you will stop to take photos. Your excursion ends at Big Island Candies—feel free to indulge in delectable handmade Hawaiian treats and 100% Kona coffee (at your own expense). Experience the best Hilo has to offer on this memorable adventure.
