Holland America Line Joins AWCC in Welcoming Eland the Moose

Holland America Line is proud to celebrate the arrival of Eland, a charismatic bull moose and the newest resident of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC). His relocation marks a milestone in the cruise line’s ongoing commitment to Alaska’s wildlife and conservation efforts. 

When Eland was displaced due to the closure of his previous facility, AWCC was able to give him a safe, permanent home. We’re proud that Holland America Line’s support helped make his arrival possible. Now thriving in his new home, Eland enjoys expert attention, enrichment, and the wide-open spaces every moose deserves. 

Named “Eland”—Dutch for “moose”—by Holland America Line’s social media followers, the name reflects the company’s heritage and its deep connection to Alaska. Thousands participated in the vote to choose the name, highlighting guests’ enthusiasm for Alaska wildlife.

Holland America Line continues to support AWCC through a variety of onboard initiatives. Guests sailing to Alaska can enjoy Harry & David’s Moose Munch® Premium Popcorn, with 3% of net sales donated to AWCC. Two exclusive cocktails—Grizzly Bear Hugo’s Spritz and Pip & Jo’s Moscow Moose—contribute $1 per drink to the center. And for those looking to take home a cuddly souvenir, $2 from every Eland plush moose sold onboard and at Holland America Line’s Denali Lodge also goes directly to AWCC’s mission.
