The Maya consider their cenotes (reservoirs) to be sacred places. Today, you will visit the Chaksinkín Cenote and, before you enter, a genuine Mayan shaman will conduct a brief purification ceremony, allowing you to use these sacred marvels.
This very special cave-like cenote sports an array of interesting stalactite and stalagmite formations. You will have 40 minutes to explore and admire the many stunning visuals. Keep an eye out for the rare marine life found only in these crystalline waters.
Then, you'll ride a horse-drawn carriage to a second reservoir — the Xooc Cenote. Vehicles like this were used a century ago to harvest the agave leaves that grow in abundance here. Hop into the water for some snorkeling in this semi-open cenote — a refreshing and unusual adventure. Your guide makes sure you don't miss any of the subtle, extraordinary visuals around you in each of these beautiful pools.
Enjoy a delicious, authentic Mayan lunch. Authentic means that a few lovely Maya ladies have made you a meal from scratch, including handmade tortillas, chicken, and fresh vegetables from the local area. You'll soon understand why this simple lunch gets rave reviews — it is a real down-to-earth culinary experience to be savored before you have to head back to the 21st century and to the ship.
