Holland America Line, in partnership with the FCCA and Port Everglades, hosted its annual Holiday Gift Project aboard Nieuw Statendam, bringing festive cheer to children from Kids In Distress.
For the second consecutive year, Holland America Line teamed up with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) and Broward County’s Port Everglades to host the Holiday Gift Project, a festive event that brings joy to children served by Kids In Distress, Inc., a Fort Lauderdale nonprofit. The celebration took place Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, aboard Nieuw Statendam at Port Everglades.
“Working with our port partners to give back to the communities we visit is important to us,” said Beth Bodensteiner, president of Holland America Line. “We’re grateful to Kids in Distress for the meaningful work they do to help children and families in the Fort Lauderdale area. It was a joy to welcome everyone aboard Nieuw Statendam once again and share in the holiday spirit.”
The event has become a cherished tradition for all involved. This year, children ages 2 to 17 enjoyed a three-course lunch, holiday activities and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Each child received gifts donated by the port and FCCA, along with a plush Lewie the Lion, Holland America Line’s mascot.
“The cruise industry is proud to give back to the communities we visit, and few things are more meaningful than bringing joy and holiday cheer to children who truly deserve it,” said FCCA CEO Michele M. Paige. “We are grateful to have partners like Port Everglades, Holland America Line, and the dedicated team aboard the Nieuw Statendam supporting initiatives like this.”
Holland America Line also donated $5,000 to Kids in Distress to support its mission of preventing child abuse, preserving families and treating children who have been abused or neglected.
