Board a motorcoach for the drive to Arromanches. This modest seaside resort owes its fame to the brilliant Mulberry Operation, which was an integral part of the Allied Landing in Europe in June, 1944.
With your guide, visit the remains of the artificial port built here — it was one of the most extraordinary industrial and maritime achievements of the whole war. It enabled Allied forces to land in France and begin the counter-invasion.
Purchase lunch (at your own expense) before you continue to Colleville. Here, you will find the American Museum, also known as the Overlord Museum, which showcases soldiers' personal items, reconstructions, and models of the entire landing operation, from the initial invasion to the Liberation of Paris.
Nearby lies the American Cemetery, where more than 9,000 marble crosses stand perfectly aligned on an impressive site overlooking Omaha Beach. A memorial, inscribed with a map of the operation and preceded by a reflecting pool, stands in the central alley surrounded by trees.
You will stop at Omaha Beach for a poignant few moments at the landing site before the drive back to Le Havre (approximately 135 minutes).
