Head to historic Pearl Harbor. Here you will have free time to explore the Visitor Center on your own, including two of the world-class museums that tell the story of Pearl Harbor and America before, during and after the attack. The Road to War exhibit gallery features artifacts, historic newsreel footage and photos of American life before the war.
The Attack gallery showcases film and oral histories, artifacts and photos of how the United States was propelled into war. These galleries display personal memorabilia, dramatic photographs, and relics from the battle. Kiosks allow you to hear the words of those who witnessed this unforgettable moment in US history.
After viewing the galleries, enjoy the interpretive exhibits running along the harbor shoreline. This walkway encompasses multiple signs, plaques, and tributes, such as the Remembrance Circle, a monument listing the names of all World War II Medal of Honor recipients. These thought-provoking displays invite visitors to imagine the experience of that tragic day. By superimposing descriptive images of Pearl Harbor as it was in 1941 over the bustling port as it appears today, these exhibits bridge the past and the present.
A bookstore and gift shop round out the amenities at this expansive National Memorial.
Take a panoramic drive through metropolitan Honolulu. Highlights include Iolani Palace — the only royal palace on American soil — and Kawaiahao Church, a historic landmark with captivating architecture.
Watch for the King Kamehameha Statue, the Hawaii State Capitol, the Governor's Mansion, and quaint missionary homes.
To conclude your day, drive through metropolitan Honolulu, take a moment to experience the serenity of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. This cemetery, informally known as Punchbowl Cemetery, is located at Punchbowl Crater in Honolulu, Hawaii. It serves as a poignant memorial to honor both men and women who courageously served in the United States Armed Forces, as well as those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
To conclude your day, visit the iconic Nu?uanu Pali Lookout, perched 1,200 feet up the Ko?olau Range on Oahu. Enjoy a panoramic vista that encompasses lush green mountains, serried dwellings, and the bluish coastline of Oahu's windward side. Nu?uanu Pali Lookout promises both natural beauty and historical significance.
