Sailing through the mountains near Port Hellesylt Norway

Hellesylt, Norway

In these days of digital distractions, the natural beauty of the Norwegian fjords still has the power to take your breath away. Savor the journey to and from Hellesylt as you sail along the Sunnylvsfjorden and Geirangerfjord, two of Norway's most iconic fjords.

If seeing the stunning fjords leaves you hungry for more beauty, there are famous waterfalls to explore as well as the imposing Briksdal Glacier and rugged beauty of the Jostedal Glacier National Park.

The tiny hamlet of Hellesylt welcomes over 200,000 tourists every year and there is a surprising amount to see and do. The village also makes an excellent base for learning more about a fascinating region where Mother Nature is most definitely in charge.

If you choose to linger in Hellesylt, take note of the 80-year-old Ole Ringdal factory. The meat processing plant employs over 60 people, a not-insignificant number in this rural area. If you feel like a walk, take a closer look at the Hellesylt waterfall or walk to Høgreiten, the rustic parkland immediately above Hellesylt center. The hiking trails through pine forests offer terrific views across the village, waterfall and fjord.
