A 90-minute coach ride from Civitavecchia brings you to Rome. A panoramic drive through the city showcases the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, the ruins of the Circus Maximus, and Palatine Hill.
On a guided walking tour, enter the Colosseum, dating back to AD 80 and perhaps one of the most iconic symbols of Rome and the grandest and most famous of the city's monuments. The Colosseum held 50,000 spectators spellbound as gladiators locked in mortal combat and wild beasts were slain. The site's rich history springs to life as you explore these primeval ruins with your guide.
Next, follow your guide into the Roman Forum — once the center of Rome's political and social life. Now in ruins, it was once the center of the Western world for many centuries.
Refresh during lunch at a local venue.
Afterward, visit St Clement's Basilica — one of Rome's most fascinating churches. The various physical layers of this complex chronicle the growth of the city of Rome through the centuries.
Notes:
Tour requires considerable walking. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Participants must be able to climb a few steps unassisted to board the transportation. The Roman Forum is not wheelchair accessible. Visitors must pass through metal detectors at the Colosseum. Large bags or umbrellas, bottled water, video cameras, knives and scissors must be checked. Many attractions do not allow large backpacks or bags and lockers are not available; please plan accordingly. You must bring photo ID that matches the name on your tour ticket. If the guide foresees that the line at the Colosseum Arena or Roman Forum is longer than a 45-minute wait, you will forego the inside visit; a full explanation while outside and free time will be substituted. Restoration/maintenance work may be underway at any venue at any time without prior notice; scaffolding can obscure views. Tour sequence may vary.
