Set out from Naples on a 30-minute motorcoach ride to the ruins of Pompeii. En route, you will stop at a cameo factory, where artisans carve seashells or coral into beautiful jewelry.
In Pompeii, discover the archeological excavations of a lost city buried in ash when Mt Vesuvius violently erupted in AD 79. Take a 90-minute guided walk through the excavated city to get acquainted with the daily life of the Ancient Romans -- their buildings and cuisine and how they entertained, decorated, and lived. Pompeii was a resort town with a forum, amphitheatre, gymnasium, shops, and an aqueduct that delivered water for irrigation, fountains, and private baths. Elaborately detailed mosaics and colorful frescoes decorate the interiors of wealthy homeowners' villas.
A 75-minute coach ride brings you to the charming village of Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Enjoy an authentic lunch of seasonal ingredients from the Campania region. Free time afterward allows you to stroll down to the Sorrento Pier and take photos. The Corso Italia is Sorrento's flower-lined main boulevard with local shops, designer boutiques and cafés.
Step aboard a hydrofoil or jet boat for the 30-minute ride to the stunningly beautiful isle of Capri. Take the cable car up to world-famous Capri town, whose exclusive boutiques cater to the rich and famous. Less therapeutic but more affordable is a visit to the Gardens of Augustus, set atop a sheer cliff and offering a striking vantage point over the turquoise sea below. Look for the Faraglioni stacks -- three rocky pinnacles formed over time by erosion from the wind and sea.
It's a 55-minute cruise back to Naples via hydrofoil or jet boat. Stunning views of the coastline are yours to enjoy as you sit back, relax, and enjoy the breeze.
