From the pier, you will head directly to a Dominican organic chocolate factory. Watch a video showing the production of organic chocolate production at every step, from cacao bean to chocolate bar. You'll be invited to enjoy a taste of the delicious end-product.
Pass the most famous landmarks of Puerto Plata with a drive along the malecón (waterfront) to see the San Felipe Fortress. Built in 1564, the fort was intended to protect the city from pirate activity. You will also pass the San Felipe Cathedral and Independence Square.
Next, visit a cigar workshop to observe the process of hand-rolling cigars. This is one of the Dominican Republic's most famous and most respected industries. You will have the opportunity to taste and buy a fresh, handmade cigar and purchase an organic coffee (at your own expense).
At La Hacienda, walk along the pathway through plantations of coffee, cacao, banana, mangos and sugar cane, along with a variety of exotic flowers and plants. You'll also visit the National Rum Museum and have a chance to purchase a taste of this distilled beverage (at your own expense), for which the Republic is famous.
A typical Dominican lunch is served, including live music and dance.
