Adventure-seekers will love this new thrill ride on a chairlift and the world's steepest zip-line.
You'll begin at the pier, boarding air-conditioned transportation for a 30-minute ride to Rockland Estate.
Upon arrival, head to the plantation house, built in the 1700s, to learn the powerful story of Trace Wilson. Trace was born into slavery on the estate in 1818, and his descendant, Emilio Wilson, later purchased the property to educate current and future generations about the conditions of plantation life and the customs, traditions and history of St Maarten. It's a marvelous story.
Board the Soualiga Sky Explorer chairlift for a tranquil ride up a 2,630-foot span. Your ascent begins with an approximately 25-minute ride to the top of Sentry Hill -- St Maarten's highest point at 1,125 feet. As the landscape unfolds below, you're headed to one of St Maarten's highest mountains for spectacular panoramic views. The experience encompasses two chairlifts and a series of platforms encircling the mountaintop and showcasing 360-degree views of the island. The panoramic vistas of neighboring islands include Saba, St Eustatius, St Barths and Anguilla.
A brief orientation will prepare you to 'fly' down the mountain on the Flying Dutchman -- the world's steepest zip-line. You'll be attached to a flight line in a secure harnessed chair; then, be ready to launch over the edge for the 1,050-foot drop in elevation, traveling more than 2,800 feet of line -- the experience of a lifetime. After your fun-filled adventure, select your favorite photo.
Enjoy free time to explore the estate and sample St Maarten's delicacies, snacks and beverages at the restaurant (at your own expense) before you board the air-conditioned shuttle to return to the ship.
