Experience St Maarten's newest attraction -- the Soualiga Sky Explorer chairlift. You'll begin at the pier, boarding air-conditioned transportation for a 30-minute ride to Rockland Estate.
Upon arrival, head to the plantation house, built in the 1700s, to learn the powerful story of Trace Wilson. Trace was born into slavery on the estate in 1818, and his descendant, Emilio Wilson, later purchased the property to educate current and future generations about the conditions of plantation life and the customs, traditions and history of St Maarten. It's a marvelous story.
Board the Soualiga Sky Explorer chairlift for a tranquil ride up a 2,630-foot span. Your ascent begins with an approximately 25-minute ride to the top of Sentry Hill -- St Maarten's highest point at 1,125 feet. As the landscape unfolds below, you're headed to one of St Maarten's highest mountains for spectacular panoramic views.
A series of platforms encircles the mountaintop, showcasing 360-degree views of the whole island and vistas of neighboring islands Saba, St Eustatius, St Barths and Anguilla.
When you're ready to descend, simply board the chairlift for the scenic trip down the mountain. Enjoy exploring the estate and sampling St Maarten's delicacies, snacks and beverages at the restaurant (at your own expense).
Board the air-conditioned shuttle to return to the ship.
