This tour is a celebration of leadership, artistry, and resilience — inviting you to follow in the footsteps of Puerto Rican women who continue to shape the island's past, present, and future. Walk through the vibrant streets of Old San Juan and Santurce to uncover the untold stories of Puerto Rico's women — from revolutionaries and poets to governors and contemporary artists.
Hear the story of women's fight for voting rights and visit the Monument to Women near El Capitolio. Figures such as Luisa Capetillo and Sila María Calderón are honored here. View the murals of Doña Felisa Rincón de Gautier — San Juan's first female mayor — and the Puerto Rican flag — both symbols of resilience and national pride shaped by women.
Continue to Calle Cerra in the Santurce district, where female muralists express themes of empowerment and identity in a dynamic open-air gallery. Along the way, enjoy cultural touches, such as a hand-fan inspired by Doña Fela, a traditional limber treat, and a coffee at a local café — reminders of how women have always been central to Puerto Rico's creativity and daily life.
Notes: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
