Travel by speedboat for a 40-minute ride to Los Haitises National Park and its captivating landforms.
At a secluded site called Cueva del Naranjo, see where a beautiful freshwater underground river exits the mountains, creating a unique ecosystem for birds and small fish.
The Mouth of the Shark is an enormous cave that emerges from the sea with the look of a Jaws movie poster. It makes for some fun photos.
Bird Cay is aptly famous for the large number of bird species that call it home -- American frigates, pelicans and vultures all live in harmony on this small cay.
At the beautiful and mysterious San Gabriel Caves, half of the group kayaks among the channels of the largest mangrove forest in the Caribbean while the other half explores the caves on foot. In the mangroves, look for birds' nests, tiny crabs, and oysters. In the giant caves, watch for the fantastic pictographs by the Taino people -- the original inhabitants of Hispaniola -- etched into the walls. The groups then switch activities.
Enjoy a refreshing beverage and head back to the ship.
