Step off the path well-trod and into the interior of the Samana Peninsula.
An open-air safari bus brings you to the start of the walking trail. Listen as your guide provides important safety information, and you will soon discover Samana in all its natural beauty and diversity. Stop along the hiking route to examine areas of interest and the plant life that is special to the locals.
You will come to an area hidden from the path that opens onto a beautiful cascade -- a waterfall and a clear natural pool, visited only by a lucky few. Relax with a cool beverage and swim in the freshwater pool before returning along the path to your waiting transport.
En route back to Samana, you’ll stop at a ranch house to purchase a beverage (at your own expense) before returning to the tender port.
Notes:
Travel time is 45 minutes each way. Participants should be physically healthy and able to stand and walk unassisted. Terrain includes uneven pathways as well as some inclines and descents. Wear sturdy footwear; basic boots are available if needed but may not be your size. Bring your swimsuit, a towel, insect repellent, sunscreen and a hat. Minimum age is 12 years. A citywide road construction project is underway and may cause delays. Your patience is appreciated. Road and walking surfaces will be bumpy. While on tour, you will see the real Dominican Republic, including some areas of relative wealth and others of disturbing poverty. Local people often offer assistance during the trek, but they are not affiliated with the tour operator. If you need their help, please note that they will expect a tip. Eat a hearty breakfast and consider bringing a snack; no meals are included. Bring bottled water. Your driver and/or guide will do his/her best to speak English, but please be patient with any language difficulties he/she may encounter. Minimum age is 12 years.
